LESSON 3: UILLEANN PIPE ROLLS IN REELS
'Rolls in Reels' are very similar to Rolls in Jigs only that the first of the roll is not generally on the accented beat like it is in jigs. It's a combination of a cut and a strike. They are used when you have three identical eight notes that need to be separated. They are played like the top image but can be written with a "half moon" or a "sideways S looking thing" above or below it. When you see these symbols it means play a roll on that note. For most of these lessons I will be using the "sideways S" but you can use which ever one you like in general.
