LESSON 3: UILLEANN PIPE HIGH HAND STRIKES
You will see in the diagrams below that the green circled hole is the hole that you will be striking. Your fingers should be relaxed and should bounce on and off the chanter. In the videos below you will see a strike perfromed very slowly and then up to speed.
A Strikes
A Strike Exercise #1
You will notice when playing the A Strike that your actually just shutting off the chanter quickly. Your not actually playing a fast G, like how if appears on the sheet music.
B Strikes
B Strike Exercise #1
Back D Strike
D Strike Exercise #1
You will notice in the video above that when my thumb comes in to contact with the chanter I do it in a "sweeping" motion, try and do it this way.
High Hand Strikes Exercise #1
You have now completed the strike section of these lessons. They are the easiest of the piping embellishments so make sure you have mastered these before moving onto harder ones. Give the songs in the next lesson a try.
