LESSON 9: UILLEANN PIPE F NATURAL

F naturals although not played very often are a very useful thing to be able to do. Like the Ghost D (Eflat) these give a tune a certain kind of flare only achievable on the uilleann pipes. Sure, any instrument can play a F natural but when played on the uilleann pipes it gives a beautiful but melancholy sound that works great in tunes and especially slow airs.

There are 3 different ways you can play an F Natural; with a Key, off the knee or half covering. You are welcome to do which ever one you prefer. My personal favourite is the off the knee, it gives a great tonal quality unachievable except on the uilleann pipes and it's the easiest to do.
