LESSON 13: EASY SONGS AND 3/4

Finally something other than exercises and boring videos. Give these easy Uilleann Pipe songs a try. They will test everything you have learned so far. Make sure you can play all of these tunes from start to finish easiely before moving onto the Novice section. Here is a couple songs that should be well within your grasp to play. You will also learn to play a tune in 3/4.

Under all songs and tunes you will see a PRINT button. Sometimes you might find it easier to print out the music when learning a tune. That way the can make marks on the paper and it allow you to practice without the use of your computer.

When playing these songs you will notice that your playing will likely not be as steady as mine. Your notes will waver in and out of tune, This is normal for beginners so don't worry to much about it.

Amazing Grace

If you look below you will see that this song is in 3/4 compared to the rest of music you have seen which has been in 4/4. This means there are 3 beats in every bar instead of 4, listen to the beats to see what I mean.

Happy Birthday

Remember when there are 2 notes in a row that are the same you just close all the notes of the chanter off to separate the two.

Dawn of the Day

This is the first Irish song you will learn and was also the first Irish song I learned. It's a beautiful lament and is sometimes even played as a march. Go to Youtube and listen to some of the beautiful arrangements of this tune and get inspired.

Well done... after learning these tunes you should finally feel like your getting somewhere.  In the next couple lessons you will learn to play the second octave and cuts. The second octave will have the same fingering as the first octave you will just need to push the bag a little harder to hit the high notes. Also, this is the last exercise or tune you will see with the note names written below the notes. It may sound scary but you will soon realize you don't need them.
