LESSON 12: ASCENDING UILLEANN PIPE CUTS

Cuts are used for more than just separating notes. They are used to help draw attention to specific notes. Ascending cuts are a little harder than normal cuts because you will be raising multiple fingers at the same time. When you first attempt this it will likely seem confusing, but don't worry soon enough it will become second nature. Make sure to go about these exercises slow in-order to do them correctly and resist the temptation to tense up while learning them properly. The cut is a way to attack a note. It should occur right on the beat, not before it as its written on sheet music.
Watch the videos, look at the diagrams and practice the exercises below to learn all the ascending cuts. I have not included ascending cuts on C or C#. There is a way to do them but it's both tricky and sounds awful so I have decided not to include them in these lessons. Also, remember I'm going to show you the way I do ascending cuts. Different people use different methods but I feel this is the easiest and best way to learn.
Don't be afraid to use the pause button in the videos to see exactly what my fingers are doing. I have tried to do it as slow as possible, but I can only do it so slow.
